Boozy Christmas Fruits

Preserved fruits in alcohol are a popular Christmas treat, whether they’re being used as a quick and easy dessert when unexpected guests arrive or to give as a stocking filler gift for foodie friends. Opies offers a wide choice of different fruits all carefully preserved in a delicious, complementary liqueur.

New for 2015 is a Limited Edition Christmas Fruits in Courvoisier. Figs, Apricots, Dates, and Cranberries are mixed with a delicately spiced syrup and Courvoisier Cognac. The Courvoisier perfectly complements the fruits and enhances the exceptional festive flavour. The fruits are delicious served simply as they are or with whipped cream, thick yogurt or vanilla ice cream. Use them to make a very luxurious bread and butter pudding or as part of a boozy Christmas Cake. Exclusively available from Waitrose and Ocado, the 460g panel jar is priced at £8.75.

Black Cherries with Kirsch is another festive fruity favourite. Opies take dark, plump cherries and steep them in a delicious syrup with Kirsch for an intense, luscious flavour. The cherries have a myriad of uses: perfect for creating a retro Black Forest Gateau, they are also delicious when added to a chocolate brownie mix for a moist, yet slightly boozy bake. Try them warmed and served with ice cream or as a pancake filling and even as part of a trifle. Don’t just use the cherries, the Kirsch liqueur can also be used in Christmas cocktails for colour and taste! Packed into an attractive 390g hexagonal jar. RRP £3.99 available from Waitrose and Ocado.

Opies has recently announced that Kate Henry, who was a contestant on last year’s The Great British Bake Off, will create a recipe collection on their behalf. Over the coming year Kate will devise a number of recipes using some of Opies’ signature products that include Black Cherries in Kirsch and Kate has already developed a Black Forest Cheesecake.

Opies is one of the oldest private family-owned food companies in the country. Many products are family favourites with Opies’ cocktail-centric products a staple in many household.
