From Russia with Love for Stag Bakeries

Despite being one of the remotest bakeries in the UK and located on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, this hasn’t prevented Stag Bakeries from successfully exporting their award-winning range.

The bakery has just secured an international order from a leading food distributor and has seen a pallet of their Stornoway Water Biscuits and seaweed biscuits range make their way to Russia. Stag’s biscuits are now on the shelves of some of the top gourmet Russian food stores including Tsum, one of the most renowned high end department stores in Moscow, which is located opposite the Bolshoi Theatre.

“It is fantastic to see that Stag has international appeal. For the first time this year, we took part in an international trade show in Germany and as a result have had phenomenal interest in the Stag brand from all over the world. We are particularly pleased that an emerging market like Russia has expressed interest and Stag is now on sale in some of the best stores. There is huge potential for Stag in international markets” explains Charlie Macdonald, owner at Stag Bakeries. “We are concentrating on growing our export sales and hoping to penetrate a number of markets this year. We are very much looking forward to the future.”

According to government statistics, food and drink exports to Russia have increased by just over 220% since 2000, to over £121 million¹
